Persistence in Ratio-dependent Models of Consumer-resource Dynamics

چکیده
In a recent work Cantrell, Cosner and Ruan show that intraspecific interference is responsible for coexistence of many consumers for one resource with a logistic like growth rate. Recently, we have established a similar result for the case of a chemostat using a rather different technique. In the present note, we complement these two works to the case of an unknown nonlinear growth rate for the resource satisfying mild assumptions.

Ontogenetic scaling of foraging rates and the dynamics of a size-structured consumer-resource model.
The ontogenetic scaling of foraging capacity strongly influences the competitive ability of differently sized individuals within a species. We develop a physiologically structured model to investigate the effect of different ontogenetic size scalings of the attack rate on the population dynamics of a consumer-resource system. The resource is assumed to reproduce continuously whereas the consume...
متن کاملPopulation growth and persistence in a heterogeneous environment: the role of diffusion and advection
The spatio-temporal dynamics of a population present one of the most fascinating aspects and challenges for ecological modelling. In this article we review some simple mathematical models, based on one dimensional reaction-diffusion-advection equations, for the growth of a population on a heterogeneous habitat. Considering a number of models of increasing complexity we investigate the often con...
متن کاملIntraspecific Interference and Consumer-resource Dynamics
In this paper we first consider a two consumer-one resource model with one of the consumer species exhibits intraspecific feeding interference but there is no interspecific competition between the two consumer species. We assume that one consumer species exhibits Holling II functional response while the other consumer species exhibits Beddington-DeAngelis functional response. Using dynamical sy...
متن کاملWhen can a single-species, density-dependent model capture the dynamics of a consumer-resource system?
Single-species population models often include density-dependence phenomenologically in order to approximate higher order mechanisms. Here we consider the common scenario in which density-dependence acts via depletion of a renewed resource. When the response of the resource is very quick relative to that of the consumer, the consumer dynamics can be captured by a single-species, density-depende...
متن کاملA Discussion on the Effects of Currency Crises on the Real Sector of Iran’s Economy: The Reaction of Productivity, Employment and Economic Growth
Crises stemming from the financial sector of economy and their possible effects on the structures of the real sector of economy including total factor productivity (TFP), labor productivity, employment and economic growth are the principal problem statement of the present study. To analyze of this problem two non-linear models have been specified. Both of them employ Iran’s macro data as well a...
